"Developing an umbrella framework to promote and support tourism skills development activity throughout the region".

The Tourism Skills Network South West supports the tourism strategy for the South West region, Towards 2015 developed by South West Tourism and SWRDA together with specialists, partners and tourism businesses.

Towards 2015 identifies three key strategic aims:-

- Driving up quality
- Delivering truly sustainable tourism
- Creating superior destination management arrangements

& identifies two skills related priorities:-

- Resolving skills shortages to enable the industry to deliver world-class quality service
- Improving the image of the industry as a first choice career offering effective career progression routes

The Tourism Skills Network South West ensures that its new project Tourism Skills 2015 is aligned to the strategic objectives of Towards 2015.

In addition the Tourism Skills Network works in partnership with People 1st to support the Sector Skills Council for Hospitality, Leisure, Travel and Tourism’s agenda within the region.



The Tourism Skills Network South West has identified four key areas of activity for Tourism Skills 2015:-

Regional Skills Policy – developing an umbrella framework to promote and support tourism skills development activity throughout the region

Regional Skills Development – developing a skilled and professional tourism workforce

Regional Research and Education – identifying skills needs and matching supply in education and training provision

Local Skills Support - identified through Destination Management Organisations (DMOs)
