Workforce Development Plans
Workforce Development plans for the Sector in the Region have been researched and published for each county and the region as a whole. Copies can be obtained from county coordinators or down loaded here.These plans were produced from research undertaken in 2002/03. Work undertaken since then has confirmed that these plans remain valid. Plans for some counties were replaced in 2007, whilst updated plans for Somerset, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire will be available later this year.

Regional and local research was carried out in 2002. It was felt that the resulting Workforce Development Plan for Wiltshire and the South West region was still relevant and valid. To test this and to provide a more in depth view of skills needs in the future a Focus Group meeting of providers and representatives from all sectors of the tourism industry in Wiltshire was held in January 2007. This qualitative rather than quantitative method of research was chosen to complement the 2002 Plan and to determine employers’ views of the industry and its future skills needs. Additional information was gathered from well established local Tourism Trade Groups which further reflected the Focus Group findings.
It is proposed that an additional online survey of VisitWiltshire members will be carried out during autumn 2008 to finalise the Workforce Development Plan for Wiltshire.
